A doula is also known as a labour coach. The term originates from the Ancient Greek word for female servant.
In other words; she is a trained and experienced woman who supports women during pregnancy and childbirth.
HOW I CAN ASSIST YOU
As your doula I will support you in every possible way.... I will be with you from the moment you need me and will stay with you all the way through the birth. By creating a calm and positive atmosphere around you, I will give you assurance and confidence.I will give you tools to support you so you can relax more.
- Coach breathing
- Influence position of the baby ( Spinning babies, moxa)
- Safeguard your wishes / birthplan
- Teamwork with your partner / spouse
I will give you tips about positions you can take that at that moment can help the labor. I can use different techniques when the contractions are not strong enough or when the dilation is not progressing.
Furthermore, I will be there to listen to you, to offer encouragement or comfort. I have a keen sense of what you need and I will help you to find the strength and faith in your own body, that you need to deliver your baby. But I alsow can step a side if you need more space and that's what you need.
I can't perform medical procedures, but I can make your birth as pleasant as possible. Not only for you, but also for your partner. That way, you can both look back on this incredible and intense moment with a great feeling. Even if things may have turned out differently than you had wanted or expected.
TEAMWORK WITH YOUR PARTNER / SPOUSE
Rather than reducing your partner's participation in the birth process, my support complements and reinforces their role.
In this day and age, partners are getting more involved and taking on more responsibilities during the birth of their child. Just as you, your partner could also feel anxious, tense or worried about what is to come. Even if he or she has some experience, it can still be a challenge for him or her to know and understand how to support you best. With a pair of extra hands, we can help each other. For example; whilst receiving a massage from me, he or she could help you with breathing techniques. Your partner will also be able to take a breather.
In short; a doula reinforces and thus enhances the presence of your partner and at the same time, takes some weight off his or her shoulders.
ARE YOU A SINGLE MOTHER?
A doula can be of great value to single mothers.
Perhaps you have opted for single parenthood, but would like someone with you during the birth? Or maybe this was not a concious decision and you are facing this on your own? Or perhaps you just would like someone there to support you?
Whichever the reason, I am happy to be there for you and give you what you need.
ADVANTAGES OF A DOULA
- Fewer Ceasearean sections
- A less painful birth
- Easier to relax
- Birth/delivery is relatively shorter
